Wonderful Willowcroft

Over the past few years our usual family Easter break has seen us camped at Clippesby Hall. A beautiful site on the edge of the Norfolk Broads with everything you could wish for from a top 'A' list site.

However this year, within walking distance of Clippesby we camped at Willowcroft Caravan Park. Booked by telephone and deposit sent by post, we couldn't wait for our 4 day break. It didn't disappoint!

Situated down a no-through road and only a two minute walk from the River Thurne on the Norfolk Broads, this twenty placement campsite all with electric hookups is simple, quiet and secluded. The friendly owners Jim and Kandy are also caravanners, so know what they expect from a site, and if there is ever a problem, which I imagine is rarely, they are only over the road to ask. 

The toilets and showers are well kept and clean....small donation for the showers, a utility room with sink, fridge/freezer. Although there are no particular site rules, it is expected that everyone is pleasantly to and respectful of each other, and they were.

There is not much for children on site i.e. play equipment, not a bad thing as there is a piece of grass in the centre available for small games and a few 'pub' style benches for campers to enjoy watching. Our children loved it and to be fair, with the swing ball and small frisbee it was sufficient. However, we rarely hang around site much during the day as there is so much nearby. 

A 20 minute walk along the river brings you to Potter Heigham - shops, fish and chips and boat hire. The beaches of Winterton-on-Sea, Horsley and Sea Palling are all within 7 miles and dog friendly. With lots of wildlife and other attractions like Dinosaur Adventure and Bewilderwood there's an abundance of activities to keep everyone occupied whatever the weather.

Venturing further afield we headed back towards Norwich and the Whitlingham Country Park. A fantastic place for walking and adventure with a lake in the middle for sailing, canoeing and other water sports. The woodland trail takes you to a fantastic play and picnic area with a wooden play boat and low wire adventure course.

The thing I love about this part of Norfolk, the Broads, is the open space and never-ending skies; peace and tranquillity. On our last evening, as I walked our dogs with my young son, we were treated to a fantastic sunset over the river close by the campsite. A fitting end to a great long weekend away.
