Our Scouting Jubilee Beacon

Any excuse for a campfire? But this was a good one!

Super proud as a Scout leader to be part of a great group, celebrating the Queens' Platinum Jubilee.

Our cubs and scouts helped out building the beacon during the day as well as preparing the marquee and bbq for the evening festivities where their families were also invited to join us.

Hotdogs, burgers, onions, lashings of sauce, and hot chocolate made for the evening festivities, with rounders and wide games. The lighting of the beacon commenced after a special bugle call and was represented by a Beaver, Cub, Scout, and Young leader. They represented the 4 points of the compass representing all the people and countries from the North, South, East & West that the Queen is head of state.  Our finest voices singing the National Anthem brought the lighting of the beacon of honour to a close.

Camping Top Tip #1

 Camping Top Tip #1

Always check over your tent, awnings, footprint (if used), guy ropes, and pegs before any trip. Is it there, have you got enough!

Whether you only used your tent last week or you are giving the tent it's first airing after being stored over the winter, this tip will save you so much hassle when setting up. We've all done the manic break our camp down quickly routine to either be off-site in time or beat the rain, and when packing the car, items just get placed in any available space. When unpacking at home not all items may be stored together.

The amount of people we read about and speak with, including ourselves who have left poles at home or forgotten that when unloading, the awning was stored in the shed, not the garage! It all makes for an unnecessary start to your holiday which can easily be avoided by sparing half an hour to check everything. Remember success is 90% preparation!

"Wild Camping"

Fun times "Wild Camping" in Hertfordshire with three local campsites to hand.

H2O Rampage is an awesome large-scale waterpark for all the family, including wild swimming, paddleboarding, and of course the fantastic inflatable course.

Situated on the Three Lakes activity centre near Ware, there are also lots of other activities available, including fishing, pitch & putt, and football golf.  Afterward, you can relax in the on-site restaurant or enjoy a lovely family walk around the area of rolling countryside.

Three Lakes also has its own campsite (Westmill Farm Camping and Caravan Site), and the sites of Church Farm Ardley, and the Hertford Camping and Caravanning Club are only a short drive away.

Please note: You will need to check swimmers' ages and competency levels before going.
