Friends of Duxford IWM

Last summer, I took my Cub pack to the Imperial War Museum Duxford ...and had such a fantastic time that I decided to get a family ticket to become a 'Friend of Duxford'. If you visit 4 times a year - you benefit with this rather than pay the day rates! The best bit of it is that not only is it reasonably local, but also on the main route back that we have to take from Norfolk and Suffolk when we go camping. This is so ideal as we can break up the journey back with just a quick visit - the childrens park is great just on it's own......but there is so much more to see.  We've just spent the morning there as had afternoon commitments, stayed mainly in Airspace, the interactive hangar, with lots of planes to see and walk on-board. They also had children's activities sponsored by Air-fix . How cool was that for them to go make and paint a plane! We took a pack lunch as the weather was kind and was treated to a Spitfire Flypast - Icing on the cake! Ca

Wonderful Willowcroft

Image
Over the past few years our usual family Easter break has seen us camped at Clippesby Hall. A beautiful site on the edge of the Norfolk Broads with everything you could wish for from a top 'A' list site. However this year, within walking distance of Clippesby we camped at Willowcroft Caravan Park . Booked by telephone and deposit sent by post, we couldn't wait for our 4 day break. It didn't disappoint! Situated down a no-through road and only a two minute walk from the River Thurne on the Norfolk Broads, this twenty placement campsite all with electric hookups is simple, quiet and secluded. The friendly owners Jim and Kandy are also caravanners, so know what they expect from a site, and if there is ever a problem, which I imagine is rarely, they are only over the road to ask.  The toilets and showers are well kept and clean....small donation for the showers, a utility room with sink, fridge/freezer. Although there are no particular site rules, it is expec

Wrest Park - Bedfordshire

Image
Wanting a family day out with our young children and two dogs, we set about Google as you do. Not too far away we found Wrest Park an English Heritage site. We had also had personal recommendations to visit this from friends. Driving there could not have been easier, simple directions ending in a lovely village with local pubs near the entrance. As we entered the grounds we noticed vast amounts of open space for sporting activities as well as exercising the dogs off the lead as we had read that inside they would have to be on them (as one would expect). We were greeted by a friendly lady as we drove in who kindly directed us to the parking area. Once out, we walked through an iron gateway to a great lawn with a fantastic play area and cafe/restaurant which proved to be good value (2 x Coffees / 2 x Juice 2 x Scones - Less than £8.50).  If you wish to go through to the house and gardens, then payment is required unless you are English Heritage Members. a family of 4 was £22.5

Snugpak Sleeping Bags

Image
If you're in need of a new Sleeping Bag for the coming Camping Season, please remember that we are Snugpak Dealers and carry a range of their Sleeping bags in stock. I have been lucky enough to use a selection of these sleeping bags, both on family holidays and whilst on cub/scout camps throughout the year. As a cub leader, the sleeper extreme has to be the most popular by far. It's a fantastic bag, that will see them through to Scouts and onto D of E. It's well priced for the insulation and features that it offers.  The Navigator is a square bottom bag - suitable for summer camps, and indoors for Beaver (younger persons) sleepovers.  The travelpak's are available in all seasons and come with the extra facility of having a built in mosquito cover for the head area.....great if sleeping under the stars and back to basics / bushcraft activities. The Chrysalis is a jump in money for a more technical bag with a smaller pack size. The zip baffle can b

A year in our Karsten

Image
Guest Blog from Richard and Serena (Karsten Owners) Hi James & Suzie This time last year you were shovelling snow off your front lawn to show us the Karsten tents. Since then we've spent a fantastic year trying out our purchases as often as we could and just thought we'd email to let you know how successful it's been.   We started off with a long weekend in Lyme Regis last April (photo with rainbow) when the days were sunny but the nights were perishing .The Karsten was warm and roomy even when filled with fellow camper friends who didn't want to go back to their own freezing tents... June we took it to the wilds of the West Coast of Ireland for a fortnight (photo by water) where the famous Irish climate chucked just about everything possible at it. We were camped literally feet from the Atlantic Ocean but the Karsten barely noticed it was in the eye of the storm much of the time. We slept like babies, the tent barely moved and we emerged sever
