Our Scouting Jubilee Beacon

Image
Any excuse for a campfire? But this was a good one! Super proud as a Scout leader to be part of a great group, celebrating the Queens' Platinum Jubilee.  Our cubs and scouts helped out building the beacon during the day as well as preparing the marquee and bbq for the evening festivities where their families were also invited to join us. Hotdogs, burgers, onions, lashings of sauce, and hot chocolate made for the evening festivities, with rounders and wide games. The lighting of the beacon commenced after a special bugle call and was represented by a Beaver, Cub, Scout, and Young leader. They represented the 4 points of the compass representing all the people and countries from the North, South, East & West that the Queen is head of state.  Our finest voices singing the National Anthem brought the lighting of the beacon of honour to a close.

Town Farm Campsite - Karsten All Season Tents

Image
One of our favorite sites, Town Farm Camping in Ivinghoe has rentable Karsten 350 tents for you to hire for your stay.  Located at the base of the Ivinghoe beacon, this site is fabulous for families with good facilities and a lovely play area; not to mention it's proximity to Whipsnade Zoo  and lovely walks to the local village and pubs! The nearest train line is a few miles away in Tring, so the City of London is easily accessible. The views from the site are spectacular so if you want to try a Karsten tent before you buy, why not book a stay with them. Kitts Cottage Campsite - East Sussex Guest Blog by Club Member - Jo Dodds A group of 9 cycling ladies spent the weekend here last weekend (07.10.2012). I was in my Karsten 300 pod with two other friends and there were various other smaller tents in our group.  James Butcher made us so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. There was one other group there last weekend, but there is so much space there that we couldn't actually see or hear them! The great bonus of this campsite was that you can light campfires, so we would come back from the pub and have a chat around the fire with toasted marshmallows and hot chocolate. This is what camping should be like! James sold us very dry seasoned wood and came to check that we weren't running out, so we went to bed nice and warm. The loos and showers were clean and fairly basic with solar heated water. We were a little concerned that there wouldn't be enough water at this time in October, but we all had
